Our Story

Naturcontact was founded in 2018 by a group of friends - Jasmin, Luke, and Ellie - united by their passion for hiking and outdoor activities. Frustrated by the limitations of traditional footwear, they set out to improve their gear, starting with the most essential element: shoes.

A few years later, Matteo, a young engineer, joined the team and helped establish Naturcontact as a UK-based company, where most of the team currently lives and works. This journey of exploration, engineering, and continuous testing led to the development of the latest Naturcontact collections, created in collaboration with certified orthopaedists, including Dr. Cuan Wayne Coetzee from MoveMed UK.

Our Values

A small UK business with real purpose

Naturcontact is a small UK-based business driven by purpose rather than profit alone. In a world increasingly dominated by automation and unhealthy work cultures, we choose to remain human, ethical, and transparent. We aim to create a respectful working environment while designing barefoot shoes that are high-quality, durable, and fairly priced, never cheap, and never overpriced just to sell a logo.

Responsible local delivery

Sustainability does not stop at production. We prioritize local UK delivery through DPD and Royal Mail to reduce unnecessary transport distances and emissions. By keeping fulfillment close to home and optimizing logistics, we aim to minimize our CO₂ impact while ensuring fast and reliable delivery. For us, sustainability means making conscious choices at every stage, focusing on realistic improvements rather than marketing claims.

Naturally enhanced durability

Barefoot shoes must remain flexible to function properly. For this reason, we apply a natural resistance treatment using a plant-based spray inspired by wintergreen oil and isopropyl alcohol. This process helps preserve material hydration and flexibility, reducing tension and premature wear, one of the reasons we confidently offer a 12-month warranty on all Naturcontact footwear.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple yet powerful: to develop and deliver reliable barefoot footwear solutions to as many people as possible. We aim to expand our product range while contributing to our community, sharing the benefits of barefoot shoes with people who value comfort, health, and natural movement.

While we are proud of our current barefoot shoe collections, we are never satisfied with standing still. We continuously explore new technologies, apply customer feedback, and improve materials and construction. Our goal is to offer thoughtfully engineered barefoot shoes that avoid unnecessary chemicals and inflated pricing, while proving that high quality does not require an excessive cost.

Made in Thoughtful Batches

We produce many Naturcontact models in carefully planned batches of around 1,000/2,000 pairs. This helps us avoid overproduction, reduce leftover stock, and focus on better materials, comfort, and long-lasting quality.

By producing closer to real demand instead of creating unnecessary excess, we can stay true to our mission: making reliable barefoot shoes with more care, less waste, and a stronger focus on quality.

UK Company, German Quality, Italian design

Naturcontact’s strength lies in combining different areas of expertise into one coherent production process. Based in London, Naturcontact collaborates closely on product development and sole engineering with German partners, specialists in barefoot shoe technology where this concept originally gained recognition.

Through long-term partnerships, German manufacturers provided machinery and technical know-how to train our team in Asian factories, while maintaining UK work ethics and quality standards. Adding to this, our footwear design is guided by Davide, an Italian designer with over 20 years of experience in fashion and functional footwear. This collaboration allows us to deliver durable, well-tested barefoot shoes with distinctive design, engineered to perform in real conditions while respecting people and the environment.
