Giving Back to Nature with Every Order

Every little bit counts. That’s why we’ve committed 1% for Nature, a pledge to support projects that make a real difference for wildlife and habitats. By dedicating a small part of what we do, we can help protect and restore some of the UK’s rarest landscapes, including Surrey’s precious heathlands.

1% for Nature - Supporting a Greener Future

We protect rare habitats such as Surrey’s heathlands, which are vital for threatened species like the sand lizard, smooth snake and Dartford warbler. Restoring these ecosystems means giving a home to wildlife that would not survive anywhere else.

Ecosystem Benefits

We support projects that strengthen soils, improve water quality and reconnect habitats. Corridors and green bridges help wildlife move safely and build healthier, more resilient ecosystems.

Improved access to Nature

Our support helps create safer, more accessible natural spaces. Managing heathlands and maintaining trails allows more people to explore, enjoy and reconnect with these unique landscapes.

Our commitment to Surrey’s heathlands

Lowland heathland is one of the rarest habitats on the planet: fragile, beautiful, and full of life. The UK is home to some of the last remaining patches, and Surrey Wildlife Trust is working tirelessly to protect and restore them. We’re proud to support their mission and help safeguard a landscape that so many species depend on.

Why heathlands matter

These open, wild spaces host an incredible mix of birds, reptiles, plants, and invertebrates, while also storing carbon and helping to reduce flood risk.
Despite their importance, the UK has lost around 80% of its lowland heathland over the past two centuries due to human pressure. Today, Surrey still holds 13% of what remains - making the work to protect it more important than ever.

A home for rare wildlife

Surrey’s heathlands - including Chobham, Wisley and Ockham Commons, Barossa, and Pirbright Ranges - are some of the richest in the country.

They provide vital refuge for species at risk, from the smooth snake and sand lizard to the woodlark, Dartford warbler, nightjar, and the beautiful but elusive heath tiger beetle. Without this habitat, these species simply wouldn’t survive.

Giving Back to Nature with Every Order

Our support helps protect and restore Surrey’s rare heathlands, strengthening wildlife habitats and enabling threatened species to recover and thrive.

How Surrey Wildlife Trust is making a difference

SWT is leading the way in restoring and reconnecting heathland landscapes so wildlife can thrive, even as climate change, development and pollution pose growing challenges.

Their work includes:

  • Reconnecting habitats through wildlife corridors
  • Protecting sites from wildfire risk
  • Restoring landscapes at a scale big enough to support long-term biodiversity
  • Reintroducing key species to strengthen declining populations

One example is Brentmoor Heath, near West End village, where SWT is creating essential bare ground habitats to support rare invertebrates as well as several reptile species.

Another exciting project which SWT has helped shape is the new green bridge linking Ockham and Wisley Commons. Once complete, it will allow sand lizards, adders, beetles, and other heathland specialists to move safely between the two sites. A huge step forward for species recovery and healthy, connected ecosystems.

Together, we can protect this irreplaceable habitat

By supporting Surrey Wildlife Trust, we’re helping to secure the future of one of the UK’s most threatened landscapes. Heathlands may be rare, but with the right care, their wildlife can flourish again.
